Acupuncture / Suchiveda

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese method of treating ailments. The word Acupuncture is made of two parts – ‘acus’ – which means a needle and 'puncture'. This form of alternative medicine is based on the concept of Qui or Chi (pronounced ‘chee’). This is a vital energy force comparable to ‘prana’ in Indian philosophy.

Diagnosis and treatment, under Acupunture, is based on a holistic view of the patient and the symptoms shown by the patient. This is expressed in terms of the balance of Yin and Yang. Yin represents the earth, cold and femininity. Whereas, Yang represents the sky, heat and masculinity. The actions of Yin and Yang influence the interactions of the five elements composing the universe: metal, wood, water, fire and earth. Practitioners of Acupuncture seek to control the levels of Yin and Yang through 12 meridians that bring energy to the body.

Chinese traditional medicine can be used for preventing and curing ailments and promoting good health.

Scientific basis of its effectiveness is based on Gate control of pain. Production and release of pain relieving mediators are known as ‘Endorphins’. During the treatment, one experiences a pleasant tingling sensation radiating along a specific direction. This method provides relief from ailments by needle puncture on specific points on the body.Needling produces subjective sensations like pain, numbness, soreness, heaviness and distension.
